It’s kind of funny how often I get asked about how I generate clients. Or what’s the best way to get more clients. I always answer the same way. You gotta do three things:
- Be Seen
- Be Heard
- Be an Expert
And the best way to do that is by joining forces with someone who already has your target market as their customers and you offer to provide them value by giving free lunch-and-learn presentations.
This model works like crazy!! But most people won’t do it because it takes work. Even though its not hard to do people don’t do it because they’re looking for that silver bullet. The push button promise to make all their pain and heartache go away.
Well sorry to tell you but that’s not reality. It takes work to make it in this business and either you want it or you don’t.
Am I being harsh? Am I being too “in your face”? Maybe. But the bottom line is we need to stop chasing the big promise of easy riches and do what we know will work.
I coach youth football and one of the most important things we teach is fundamentals. Blocking and tackling. Over and over again. In my opinion, fundamentals are the most important factor that determines success.
For years, I’ve also coached rec, select and high school soccer. And it was obvious from the beginning that to have an elite team at an older age group you need to develop fundamentals from the beginning and continue to grow them as they get older. This means developing balls skills: dribbling, passing and trapping.
At the end of the day it doesn’t matter how sophisticated your game plan is if your players can’t execute it.
This is the same in business. We can have the most elaborate, sophisticated best producing solution but if we don’t do the fundamentals right no one will ever see or experience it! Meaning, if we don’t have a systematic way to generate clients and get our message to them how in the world will they ever know about our great solution?
So if you’re still chasing every new thing that comes our and have lost focus on the fundamentals NOW is the time to get your focus back!
