Last month we did a short survey on the kind of videos you prefer to use in your business. As promised we’re sharing the results.
Before we go over the results there are a few things to consider…
The first thing to realize is we had over 100 responders. Is that a large enough sampling? I don’t know. I’m not a statistician. However, based on the results I think we could have had 5,000 people respond and things wouldn’t have changed much. Keep reading to see why I feel this way.
Second, we did not drill down and be super specific in what we were looking for. For example, we didn’t specify what type of video we were talking about. Meaning, for our lead-gen sites we use 30-60 second pre-sales videos. It’s our guess that’s the mindset that most of the responders answered their questions – with those types of videos in mind.
It’s also our guess that if we did specify the exact type of video the results would have been a little different.
Here’s why I say that.
Over 74% of people said they like the hand-drawn videos. I do too! But if I invest in a training course and it is entirely made up of nothing but hand-drawn videos I’ll go nuts!! However, hand-drawn videos are great for quick 30-60 second pre-sales videos all the way up to 10-15-minute full sales videos. Do you see the difference?
Now let’s take a look at the results and then read my comments below for additional thoughts.
- Over 92% of responders say they use video in their business.
- 75% create their own videos
- 56% outsource or have outsourced their video creation
- A whooping 85% prefer the Image based videos over text only videos.
- In addition: 74% like hand-drawn videos; 54% like animation videos; 42% like face-to-camera videos.
I hope its no surprise that over 92% of people are using video in their business. In fact, I’m surprised its not higher!! If you’re not using some sort of video in your business then you are not making as much as you could be. Its really as simple as that.
Personally I was surprised that over 72% of people are creating their own videos. That’s awesome! I wish I would have asked what kind of videos they’re making. That would have been useful information for sure. (If you make your own videos please share what type of videos you make in the comment section.)
Another things that surprised me – at least a little bit – was that only 56% of people are outsourcing their videos. First of all, if you own one of our L.G.S. Packages or Marketing Consultant Credibility Packages then it should be 100%! Second, if you’re not outsourcing your videos you could be losing money. The reason I say that is because it can take a lot of time creating videos. If you should be focusing on other parts of your business, but instead you’re creating videos you may want to reconsider. There are a lot of fair priced video creators out there. You should consider using them if you’re spending too much time creating videos yourself.
This last one did NOT surprise me at all- 85% of people prefer image-based videos over the text only videos. The mind thinks in pictues. It does not think in text. Even as you read this you’re not thinking of the words on the screen but rather images in your mind. That’s why using relatable images while listening to the voice over is so impactful. It immediately puts the viewer in a state that they can relate and imagine themselves in the scenario being described on the video. That’s the biggest reason why we created our image-based videos the way we did from the beginning. We added text-based videos for testing purposes and to meet customer demand. Even some people know that image-based videos are more engaging they still wanted text based videos. Go figure!
I hope that you found this survey to be informative and helpful. Please share your thoughts and comments below.
Hello, Drew.
You state, “I hope its no surprise that over 92% of people are using video in their business.”
No way. I’ll bet you not even 92% have a website for their business. I’ll bet not even 92% have a logo for their business.
I do, however, like your pre-made videos. Take care.
Hey Matthew,
I think you misunderstood my comments. The people that responded are active marketing consultants. They are current customers of ours. So I have no reason to believe that they did not answer the survey honestly. In fact, I have helped many of them so I know that they have websites, logos, etc.
However, if you’re talking about local businesses in general – then I would certainly agree that most do not use video and most don’t even have a website. Or if they do have a website, it totally blows!
Thanks for your comments!
